A court may allow a family case to move to another county, but relocation alone does not automatically transfer it. The available process depends on state venue rules, the kind of case, and the court that currently holds the file.
Ask the current court about venue
Venue means the county or court location where a case proceeds. As one local example, Nevada County Superior Court directs a person seeking to move an entire California family case to request permission from the other county; it distinguishes that request from registering only a support order (Nevada County Superior Court — Transferring a child support case from another county).
Transfer standards, forms, fees, and effects vary by state and case type. Find the current court through the state directory and ask whether the request must begin there before filing in a new county.
